==July 19: Creating [[wikipedia:SOCKS|SOCKS]] proxy==
# In Firefox->Preferences->Network->Settings->Manual Proxy Configuration: Enter in SOCKS Host box
127.0.0.1
and the port (say,
8080
)
# Connect to the host you want to use as proxy by
ssh -D 8080 user@hosts
and leave the ssh session open
That is all, it's really so simple! The proxy works also for https, video streaming, etc. For more details see http://magellan.nersc.gov -> using magellan -> [http://magellan.nersc.gov/?page_id=566 creating a SOCKS proxy] and [http://lifehacker.com/237227/geek-to-live--encrypt-your-web-browsing-session-with-an-ssh-socks-proxy this guide].

For other browsers than Firefox the settings may be similar. But proxy settings in some browsers integrated into the OS may affect all network connections, not just that browser... and when you do the proxy to work, the IT services know all where you are going... so I rather use Firefox.
